'Being a Parent is a Blessing'- IVF at Saraogi Hospital,Mumbai
"It is said that being a mother or a father is a blessing. It is true technically as well, as the doctors say that achieving fertility is a difficult task, but its no more impossible with the help of advanced medical procedures."
Basics First
First, let’s give you a quick rundown of In Vitro Fertilisation. It’s one of several ARTs or Assisted Reproductive Technologies, that infertile couples can use to get pregnant. Of all the ARTs, IVF is probably one of the most well-known. At a basic level, it involves fertilizing eggs with sperm outside of the body, before implanting them back in. The success rate of IVF is quite high, especially with older mothers. Although individual rates vary for each clinic, average success rates are about 90% for women under 35, 85% in women 35-39, and 45% in women age 40-44.
If you’re about to go into IVF or a member of your family or friends is beginning their IVF journey, a good understanding of the best IVF centre in Mumbai is a must. Not only does it mean you know where you're headed to, but you can be better prepared for everything beforehand.
In this article, I would like to take you directly to the different treatments that Saraogi Hospital has for you to offer.
Let's make it easy for you!
1. Intrauterine Insemination / IUI:
IUI is a non-invasive infertility procedure where the sperm is placed in the woman’s uterus at the time when she is ovulating. It is a simple procedure which is done in the doctor’s clinic without the use of anesthesia.
IUI is mainly used in the following conditions:
• Low sperm count or mobility
• Ejaculation dysfunction
• Cervical mucus problem
• Unexplained infertility
• Hindrance due to cervical scar tissue
2. Donor Sperm Insemination:
If dad-to-be has no fertility issues, doctors will undertake a standard insemination. This involves the doctors combining the eggs and sperm in a dish and leaving them overnight. For future dads with fertility issues, particularly to do with motility, the doctor will likely choose to do an Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection. This sounds scary, but it basically involves the doctors injecting a single sperm into each egg before leaving them overnight to fertilize.
3. IVF and ICSI:
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a procedure where the female eggs (oocyte) are incubated with around 50000 sperms so that the eggs are fertilized in a natural way. The resulting embryos are then transferred to the woman’s uterus so that it can result in pregnancy.
On the other hand, Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a more advanced method which is very commonly used for infertility treatment in Mumbai. During this method, the single sperm is injected into each egg with the help of micromanipulator. ICSI treatment has a higher success rate than IVF as the best sperms are carefully chosen using microscopes to fertilize the eggs because of which better quality embryos are produced.
4. Surrogacy:
Surrogacy is an exclusive fertility treatment that is available at only a few centers in Mumbai as it is a highly specialized field. Here, couples who are unable to conceive outsource a womb to carry the pregnancy to term.
5. Egg, Sperm & Embryo Freezing:
Another important factor for opting for cryopreservation is the excess embryos which are left unused after your ICSI or IVF treatment. Usually, during IVF treatment around 2 to 3 embryos are placed in the uterus depending upon the age of the woman, the rest of the embryos are left unused.
So, it is best to freeze and store the leftover good quality embryos with vitrification so that they can be used at a later date in case your IVF cycle fails and you want to opt for another cycle or are planning to have another baby. By doing so, you can get the subsequent cycle at a fraction of the original cost by utilizing your frozen embryos after thawing them. And mark you; the success rates are equal or more than the IVF treatment done using fresh embryos.
6. Frozen Embryo Transfer:
Once the doctors have assessed the embryos and ensured they’re fertilized and ready to go, they will choose the most advanced one to be transferred. To do this, the doctors put the embryo into a thin, soft plastic tube and place it back in the uterus. The process is very straightforward and is similar to a pap smear in the way it is done, meaning anesthetic is not required.
